Purifics Awarded 2nd Arizona Groundwater Project for Fluoride Removal and Zero Liquid Discharge

Purifics Water Inc. has been awarded a new municipal groundwater purification project in Arizona to address elevated fluoride concentrations while maximizing water recovery in one of North America's most water-stressed regions. This marks Purifics' second groundwater treatment project award in Arizona within the past two years, further expanding the company's growing portfolio of sustainable groundwater purification solutions in the Southwest.

The full-scale installation will utilize Purifics' proprietary Cuf ® (Continuous Ultra-Filtration) technology to treat groundwater containing fluoride concentrations of approximately 3.5 to 5.5 mg/L and reduce them to below the secondary drinking water standard of 2.0 mg/L.

The project will deliver a treatment capacity of approximately 1.5 MGD while achieving 99.99% water recovery through the integrated Solids Recovery Unit (SRU™), achieving true Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) operation. The project is currently progressing through detailed engineering and manufacturing and is expected to be ready for installation in Spring 2027.

The award follows successful pilot testing conducted at Pinal Valley Well 11, where Purifics demonstrated effective fluoride removal using aluminum sulfate coagulation integrated directly within the Cuf ® platform. The pilot also verified sustained operation, optimized process parameters, and demonstrated true ZLD performance.

Unlike conventional treatment systems that generate liquid waste streams, the Purifics process separates contaminants as residual solids within a single integrated operation, maximizing water recovery while minimizing waste and disposal requirements.

This project demonstrates how municipalities can address challenging groundwater quality issues while preserving valuable water resources. As water scarcity continues to impact communities across the Southwest, solutions that combine reliable contaminant removal with exceptional water recovery are becoming increasingly important.

The Cuf ® platform combines concentrated sweep flocculation and silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic membrane technology to deliver continuous, automated treatment with minimal operational complexity and no liquid waste disposal infrastructure.

This project further expands Purifics' portfolio of drinking water installations across North America and reinforces the company's commitment to sustainable, high-recovery water purification solutions.
